in the northern Arabian Sea, under the eyes of the Iranian military, its crew and bombers are sitting ducks.“A US aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf is a target and not a threat,” said the head of Iran’s aerospace division. “If Americans make a move we’ll hit them in the head.”
And if the Jews keep pushing the envelope, (as they are wont to do), Iran is capable of crippling the carrier and sinking its task force.
It’s easier and less expensive to sink a carrier than for the cumbersome bulk to launch a war on a country thousands of miles away from home.
Not only would Iran blow up the American ships but would set Saudi and UAE oil facilities into flames. That’s why the US carrier won’t sail up to Iran’s doorstep.
As for the downed US drone, it was doubtless sent into Iranian airspace to bait the Iranians into reacting, and thus gather intelligence on their military capacities.
Deftly taking down the drone but refraining from striking the Navy’s manned electronics surveillance plane, the US remains clueless about Iran’s actual air defense capabilities.
Tehran has put Jewmerica on notice: ‘If Iran can’t export oil no-one in the Middle East will.’
Getting sucked into wars for the Jews is simply bad foreign policy.
PERHAPS SHELDON ADELSON’S bought and paid for boy, Pompeo, and Morton Klein’s chump, Bolton, never told Trump about Iran’s arsenal of Sunburn Missiles that can be launched from land, water, and air.
And not only the Sunburn Missiles but Russia’s S-300 Anti-Aircraft Missiles—an S400 system in all but name—are fully operational in Iran and can make an American ‘limited strike’ look like a blow up party with Iranians cheering below.
Iran-allied Hezbollah, an official paramilitary force in Lebanon—avowed it will “join battle” if US hits Iran.
With Hezbollah’s arsenal of 150,000 short to long range rockets, “ready to be launched at the Jewish state in any future conflict,” surely American troops will be sent to IsraHell to die for the cowardly Jews once the conflict they started widens.
But we’re living in a Jew-infested world where only the Goys die young for Jewry’s insatiable thirst for war.
Iran poses no threat to anyone except to Israel and International Jewry.
For with Iran’s large educated class, seasoned scientific elite, proud and noble people of a long-lived Persian Empire, and its role in the “Axis of Resistance” which encompasses Syria and Lebanon, Israel and its Lobby are SUCKING America into a pot that’s on high boil.
WHEN A GROUP of Jewish colonists plopped themselves into the midst of an Arab and Muslim world, the White world didn’t foresee (some did) the noose soon to be hung around its neck.
For expecting Americans to bail them out every time the colonists saw they were hated (for good reason) by brutalized and oppressed Palestinians it should’ve given the Western World pause and cause for deep reflection which had no dog in this race.

There is nothing that the filthy kikes WON’T DO to draw Jewmerika into a war with Iran. The kikes want Jewmerika to send her boys (and girls) into a war, aimed at Iran in particular, because the Iranians have figured out the Jewish plan to draw the U.S. into a Middle Eastern quagmire.
Once the Americans are fighting Israhell’s war against the Iranians, the cowardly Jews will hide behind Jewmerika’s strength, laughing at the “dumb goyim” who are fighting and dying to protect Israhell.

Iran Front Page: Prudence Prevented B-Team from Taking Trump into War: Iran
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says the B-Team – Bin Salman, Bin Zayed, Bolton, and Bibi – were dragging US President Donald Trump into a war with Iran, but prudence prevented that from happening.
“More evidence — including encroachment of a MQ9 spy drone on 5/26, speedboat purchases & phone calls planning to attribute ship attacks to Iran — indicate B-Team was moments away from trapping Trump into a war,” Zarif said on Sunday.
[Zarif shows a copy purported to be a Iranian time-stamped plotted graph of the MQ9 Reaper drone surveillance flight path on 5/26 with at least a hundred points marked over several hours. And, surprise, surprise, it shows the MQ9 leaving international air space and flying over Iranian territorial waters that time, too, complete with a deliberate figure-8 pattern in Iranian air space.
He’s also published on his Twitter account maps with continuously plotted coordinates of the Triton’s flight path before it was shot down early on June 20. It definitely adds weight to +BN’s assessment that it was all a deliberate provocation by the US. ]

The new pieces of evidence highlighted by the Iranian foreign minister include the leaked audio of a phone conversation between two MKO elements, which revealed a Saudi plot to frame Iran for the recent tanker attacks.
In the audio, which was first released by the Iran Front Page, two members of the anti-Iran terrorist group, the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization, are heard talking about Saudi Arabia’s collusion with the MKO elements to pin the blame on Iran.

A war against Iran would certainly include attacking Syria, the centerpiece of the resistance in the region.
An attack on Syria will mean an attack on Russian forces there, and this can easily spiral out of control into all-out war.
Not only will be Tel Aviv under missile fire, it will be also Jew York and Washington. Jewish casualties will be counted in the tens- or hundred of thousands this time.
I reckon that this might have been the reason that prompted Trump to abort the attack on Iranian air defense bases. Remember that on August 31, 2013, Gen. Martin Dempsey “convinced” Barack Obama to call back the attack on Syria, which he knew it would mean war with Russia.
Before him, in 2007, Admiral William “Fox” Fallon, at the time CENTCOM chief, was the one that ordered the B-52s sent to bomb Iran to turn back to their bases. He was dismissed in 2008 by drunkard and war criminal G.W. Bush.
Trump has given his Middle East policy over to Jared Kushner, but that doesn’t mean that he can’t see the devastating consequences of a war with Iran.
We will have to wait and see, and pray that common sense prevails!

Elijah J. Magnier: HOW IRAN DECIDED TO DOWN A US DRONE AND NARROWLY AVERTED WAR BY SPARING ANOTHER US PLANE
Iran averted all-out war in the Middle East at the last moment when the Central command and control operational room of its Army and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) ordered not to shoot down a US Navy anti-submarine warfare, Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance Poseidon P-8.
Unusually, there were 38 on board the P-8 aircraft which requires a crew of 9. There were a minimum of 6-8 officers onboard (2-3 Col, 3-4 Lt) and the remaining crew likely held grades under Lieutenant.
The plane was flying within range of Iranian missiles over Iranian waters when Iran’s central command and control received confirmation that the US would not go to war or hit any target in Iran. This took place following the Iranian downing of one of the most advanced US drones last Thursday.
The drone had been violating Iranian airspace, according to Tehran authorities, who later presented the debris of the unmanned drone to the media.
Iran had received confirmation through a third country that President Donald Trump would refrain from bombing any Iranian positions.
“Iran was about to hit and destroy the US Navy P-8 Poseidon spy and anti-submarine Boeing that was flying in the area when we received confirmation that the US had decided not to go to war and not to bomb any control and command or missile batteries positions, cleared or non-cleared, along the Straits of Hormuz.
“Had Trump decided otherwise, we had orders to hit several US and US allies’ targets and the Middle East would have been the theatre of a very destructive war with huge losses on all sides”, said an Iranian IRGC General.
But how did war almost break out on the morning of June 20th of June, and how did Iran decide to down a US drone?
An IRGC high ranking officer said “the Rules of Engagement are agreed to by the Central command and control of the army and the IRGC. These are communicated to the thousands of air defence forces positions spread throughout the country.
“Decisions are not independently and unilaterally taken by a lone wolf General or the commander of a particular position, as Trump embarrassingly believes.”
“Iran has received detailed information and mission objectives, via reconnaissance and other intelligence means, related to the types of the mission of the last batch of US forces sent by Trump (the Pentagon announced it was sending 1000 personnel) to the area.
“These have the task of monitoring the air and the sea (both above and under), command several drones and have task forces ready to engage immediately any potential target. All this is under the auspices of protecting oil tankers navigating in the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf.
“This move took place following the attacks on oil tankers at al-Fujairah and the last attacks on two tankers. These attacks are the result of Trump’s decision to sanction Iran and prevent any country from buying its oil.
“Iran made it clear that no oil will be exported from the region if Iran cannot… Therefore, whatever the US military procedure, it will not enable oil to reach the rest of the world, particularly not in the aftermath of the downing of the drone”, said the source.
According to the military officer, the “Iranian Central command and control issued a protocol to be followed by all command and control spread throughout the country, giving instructions to stop any violations of Iran’s sea, land and air territories.
“A warning is issued when the violation is identified, whether intentional or unintentional. The local IRGC command also informs the central command of the violation and, simultaneously, orders the intruder to adjust the course of its trajectory and identify itself.
“This is exactly what happened on the morning of the 20th of June, the equivalent of the 30thof Khordad in the Persian calendar. This is when the US drone was spotted leaving the Emirates and flying towards the Iranian coast, exploring the Gulf for around 4 hours.
“On its way back, when violating Iranian airspace, the base communicated with the drone and gave the usual warning.
“The drone responded by turning off its digital system, lights and GPS, indicating that it was a military object with either an intelligence gathering or battle mission.
“It was thus immediately classified as hostile and therefore a potential target. When it ignored repeated calls for identification, the central command of the air-defence position followed mission instructions and, in this case, decided to down the drone.
“Our radars could see the drone and the heat it was producing. A ‘Third of Khordad’ missile was launched to destroy the target immediately”.
The military commander confirmed that the “political and military leadership coordinate decisions given to the command centre and weigh carefully the consequences and implications of any orders given.
“These orders are clear: firmly engage with any threat. An economic war is being waged on Iran, and this war is equivalent to the most violent military action.
“This is why the thousands of air-defence positions spread in the country will decisively act accordingly: they are on a permanent state of alert and ready to follow the orders and training they have already received in case the US decided to go to war”.
“We decided not to down the P-8 Poseidon because we received confirmed information that no war is expected. Otherwise, we would not have hesitated to hit any US objective in the area, in the air, US military bases or the sea if the US military decides to hit us.
“The consequences would be irrelevant, and the blame for who started it and who is responsible will no longer matter. We will be at war”, said the general.
Unusually the P-8 Poseidon, which normally has a crew of 9, was carrying 38 crew and officers on board.
Iran plans to adopt a strategy of progressive hits in case of war: “our allies will be an essential part of our battle so the front will be enlarged beyond Iran and the nearby US military bases. The allies are ready to run into battle and are giving signals of their readiness.
“We have noticed that no Israeli drone has been identified above Lebanon for a couple of days. Obviously, Israel is trying to avoid provoking a message from Lebanon, similar to the downing of the US drone. It looks like the US doesn’t want to receive more than one message from another front.
“This doesn’t mean Israel will stop violating Lebanese airspace, but Israel is now aware that its air movement is monitored and the sky will no longer be safe when the time comes for a confrontation”.
The US was surprised by the capability of the “Third of Khordad” missile.
Its name commemorates the 24th of May 1982, the day when the city of Khorramshahr was liberated after 578 days of Iraqi occupation during the Iraq-Iran war. Sayyed Ali Khamenei called that day, the Third of Khordad, “the day of the resistance and victory”.
The “Third of Khordad” missile – originally a SAM 6 – had been domestically modified in 2013 when Russia refused to develop it.
Special modifications were introduced, optimising its electronic equipment, improving detecting sensors including thermal sensors and developing a lock option for its GPS to protect heavy jumping interferences.
The missile was given the coordinates and launched against the thermal trace of the US drone, and it destroyed the target.
“We shall not stand idly by if signatory countries will not find a way out for Iran to regain its trade, energy and commercial position in the international market.
“If sanctions are not lifted one way or another, we are only at the beginning of the crisis. Much more can be expected. Iran will never accept to be disarmed of its missiles because they are a guarantee for its security and that of the region.
“Today Iran is much stronger, enjoying the support of the population and harmony between the political and military leadership. We shall not submit and no negotiation with Trump can be expected as long as sanctions are hovering over our heads.
“The world should expect more surprises in the coming days because Iranians refuse to starve. Therefore, we are no longer afraid of any war, even more significant against a superpower country”.
The US drone was downed in the same area where in July 1988 the USS Vincennes guided missile cruiser downed Iranian civilian flight 655 with 290 people onboard.
Over 100 bodies are still lying on the seabed of the Straits of Hormuz. On social media members of the families of the victims expressed happiness at seeing an Iranian missile strike a blow to US pride in the Straits of Hormuz.
This may have been some consolation to the families, but Trump’s decision to respond by imposing further sanctions on Iran starting Monday means the risks of a wider war and many more dead are looming ever over the region and the world.

I recall reading that Iranians began their Friday after-prayer chant “Death to America” after the USS Vincennes blew civilian passenger Iran Air Flight 655 out of the sky on July 3, 1988 during the Iraq-Iran War, but it may have started earlier. The context isn’t literal death to Americans, but “Down with America” and its rotten politics.
The Vincennes was illegally operating in Iranian territorial waters, and not in international waters as the White House long claimed through three successive administrations.
It took nearly 10 years for Iranian government on behalf of the families of the victims pursuing the mass wrongful death suits at the hands of the US Navy through the International Court of Justice, a suit later dropped upon a settlement with the US, to receive some kind of justice and restitution from the US Government — but never an apology.
What Iranians have meant by this symbolic chant since then is the calling for the demise of the imperial US Government which they justifiably hate to this day — at that time, the Reagan administration with “Pappy” Bush as VP — and never calling for the mass extermination of the American people.
When the Trade Towers Disaster occurred on September 11, 2001, thousands and thousands of Iranians spontaneously turned out on the streets for candlelight vigils and prayers in sympathy and solidarity with the American people.
Perhaps someday if a real US president stood up and offered a sincere official apology to the Iranian people for the wrongful deaths of the innocent men, women and children on Flight 655 (instead of the platitudinous “regrets”) the Iranians just might stop chanting “Death to America” which Trump, and his major Fox News cheerleader Sean Hannity, find so disturbing and try to make into a casus belli.
156 men, 53 women, 57 kids aging 2 to 12, and 8 babies aging 2 or less, mostly Iranian citizens with other foreign nationals, were on board when Flight 655 departed Bandar Abbas Airport for Dubai. Iranians believe that the airliner was shot down intentionally to threaten and coerce Iran into signing a piece treaty with Iraq, which the U.S. was lethally and aggressively defending at the time with its own covert CIA and naval actions in Iranian territorial waters during the Iraq-Iran War, supporting Saddam Huissen.
To refuse to apologize for one’s war crimes is showing no Integrity whatsoever.

The Facts about the US Shootdown of Flight 655
After the Vincennes shot down Flight 655, as Fred Kaplan noted in his Slate piece, Vice President George H. W. Bush responded by saying, “I will never apologize for the United States of America—I don’t care what the facts are.”
The facts were that the Aegis cruiser USS Vincennes, under the command of Captain Will Rogers III, had entered Iran’s territorial waters and opened fire on and sank two Iranian gunboats posing no threat to the American vessels. (Aboard another Iranian boat the Vincennes was passing by at the same moment Rogers gave the order to open fire, the crew was seen relaxing topside, as captured by the camera of US Navy journalists.)
At the time, as a Navy investigation later acknowledged, the Vincennes detected a plane ascending “on a normal commercial air flight plan profile” and squawking a transponder signal identifying itself as a commercial aircraft.
Aboard the Sides, with identical radar information as received aboard the Vincennes, Captain Carlson determined the plane was a “non-threat”.
Aboard the Vincennes, Lieutenant William Montford warned Captain Rogers that the plane was “possible COMAIR,” but Rogers nevertheless ostensibly convinced himself that his ship was under attack from an F-14 fighter plane and minutes later ordered it shot down.
(Incidentally, the US had sold F-14s to Iran in the early 1970s while it was under the thumb of Washington’s strongman, Mohammed Reza Shah Pahlavi, who was put in power after a CIA-orchestrated coup in 1953 overthrew Iran’s democratically elected government by deposing Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh for having nationalized the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. The Shah was in turn overthrown during Iran’s 1979 Islamic revolution.)
Well aware that his action might kill civilians, Rogers ordered his gunner to open fire on the plane, shooting it out of the sky.
The Navy’s self-investigation attributed the discrepancy between the known facts and Rogers’ actions to “scenario fulfillment”. Rogers had made “an unconscious attempt to make available evidence fit a preconceived scenario.”
In other words, even though the information the officers and crew aboard the Vincennes were receiving indicated that the plane was ascending along a commercial flight path and squawking its identify as a civilian airliner, Rogers imagined it to be an F-14 fighter jet coming down out of the sky to attack his ship.
US government officials evidently also suffered from “scenario fulfillment” as they proceeded to make claims about what had happened bearing no relationship to reality.
President Ronald Reagan claimed that the killing of 290 civilians was justified as “a proper defensive action”.
Never one to apologize, Vice President Bush, while campaigning for the presidency, called it “just an unhappy incident” and reassured Americans that “life goes on.”
As he was scheduled to speak before the UN Security Council about the incident, Bush said, “I can’t wait to get up there and defend the policy of the United States government” by presenting “the free world’s case” for why 290 mostly Iranian civilians were dead.
Speaking before the Security Council, Bush blamed Iran for allowing a civilian airliner to go about its business carrying passengers to Dubai at a time when an American warship was “engaged in battle”.
He declined to explain how the pilot, Captain Mohsen Rezaian, or the air traffic controllers at the airport in Bandar Abbas, where Flight 655 had taken off, could possibly have known that a US warship with an imaginative captain on board was in Iran’s territorial waters firing at anything that moved.
Bush lied to the Council that the Vincennes had “acted in self-defense” against “a naval attack initiated by Iranian vessels” on the American ship when it “came to the aid” of an “innocent ship in distress.”
Also not wont to question the actions of the US government, the New York Times in an editorial published July 5, 1988, urged Americans via their headline to put themselves “In Captain Rogers’s Shoes”.
Sympathizing with the killer, the Times editors described the shootdown as “horrifying”, but “nonetheless an accident.” It was “hard to see what the Navy could have done to avoid it.” Captain Rogers “had little choice” but to open fire, they opined, assuming the US government’s account “turns out even approximately correct”.
Of course, the official account turned out to be pretty much the opposite of the truth in virtually every aspect, but the Times was, as ever, not over-eager to seriously question the government’s claims.
Thus, the editors maintained the deception that the Vincennes was “in a combat zone” and “engaged in action against Iranian gunboats making high-speed runs against it.”
The editors also relayed as fact that the radar operators aboard the Vincennes had “reported an aircraft heading toward the ship and descending.” Furthermore, they “apparently had indications, which the Navy refuses to discuss, that the plane was a powerful F-14 jet.”
Unimaginatively, the Times editors failed to conceive of the most obvious reason why the Navy would refuse to discuss that claim: because there were no such indications.
The furthest the Times would go to question the official narrative was to state that it was “not yet clear why sophisticated radar did not distinguish between an F-14 and a much larger Airbus.”
The lie the Times was upholding then—as to this day—was that the ship’s sophisticated radar had indicated it was something other than a civilian airliner.
After axiomatically accepting this lie, the editors immediately urged their readers to “put yourself in Captain Rogers’s shoes”. They proceeded to assert that the “evidence” suggested “an imminent attack” by the plane on the Vincennes.
Note that the word “evidence” in this context is being used euphemistically by the Times’ editorial board to mean claims by US government officials that were directly contradicted by the actual evidence available to them.
The Times proceeded to state that, if the US government’s account was at least “largely correct,” then we could safely conclude that the Iran Air pilot was to blame “for failing to acknowledge the ship’s warnings and flying outside the civilian corridor. Iran, too, may bear responsibility for failing to warn civilian planes away from the combat zone of an action it had initiated.”
They concluded that “the onus for avoiding such accidents in the future” fell not on the captains of American warships operating in the territorial waters of other countries, but “on civilian aircraft” flying in their own airspace.
The takeaway lesson presented by the Times was that civilian aircraft should just “avoid combat zones, fly high, [and] acknowledge warnings.”
Finally, the editorial concluded that ultimate blame lay with the government of Iran, with the “accident” instructing the world that it was time for Tehran “to bring an end to its futile eight-year war with Iraq.”
Of course, as the Times editors were perfectly well aware, it was Iraq who started the war, which dragged on for eight long years in large part due to the fact that the US was backing the aggressor.
Far from being held accountable for the mass murder of 290 civilians, Captain Rogers was later presented with the Legion of Merit award “for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service” during his time as commanding officer when the shootdown occurred.
Rogers’ weapons and combat systems officer at the time, Lieutenant Commander Scott E. Lustig, received two commendation medals and was praised for “heroic achievement” for his conduct during the incident.
The entire crew of the Vincennes received combat action ribbons.

The 31st anniversary of the shootdown of Iran Air Flight 655 and the murder of 290 souls on board arrives 9 days from now, July 3, 2019.
As they have done for the past 30 years, mourners from helicopters and ferries will likely scatters flowers into the Strait of Hormuz during a ceremony remembering the 290 passengers at the spot where the airliner was downed.
The gladiolus flowers float on the water just like the bodies of the dead passengers did in 1988.
The deaths shocked Iran, even amid the carnage of the war with Iraq, which would kill 1 million people. Sixty-six of the dead were infants and children.
Last year during the 30th year commemoration, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said, “Years after this appalling tragedy and brutal operation, its pain is still burning and it remains a stain on the reputation of the US which is not afraid of committing flagrant violations of international norms, rules and customs.”

The Russian General Staff has reinforced the air defences for Russians at the Iranian nuclear reactor complex at Bushehr, on the Persian Gulf, according to sources in Moscow. At the same time, Iran has allowed filming of the movement of several of its mobile S-300 air-defence missile batteries to the south, covering the Iranian coastline of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
More secretly, elements of Russian military intelligence, electronic warfare, and command and control advisers for Iran’s air defence systems have been mobilized to support Iran against US and allied attacks.The range of the new surveillance extends well beyond the S-300 strike distance of 200 kilometres, and covers US drone and aircraft bases on the Arabian peninsula, as well as US warships in (and under) the Persian Gulf and off the Gulf of Oman.
Early warning of US air and naval-launched attacks has now been cut below the old 4 to 6-minute Iranian threshold. Counter-firing by the Iranian armed forces has been automated from attack warning and target location.
This means that if the US is detected launching a swarm of missiles aimed at Iran’s air-defence sites, uranium mines, reactors, and military operations bunkers, Iran will launch its own swarm of missiles at the US firing platforms, as well as at Saudi and other oil production sites, refineries, and pipelines, as well tankers in ports and under way in the Gulf.
“The armed forces of Iran,” said a Russian military source requesting anonymity, “have air defence systems capable of hitting air targets at those heights at which drones of the Global Hawk series can fly; this is about 19,000 to 20,000 metres. Iran’s means of air defence are both foreign-purchased systems and systems of Iran’s own design; among them, in particular, the old Soviet system S-75 and the new Russian S-300.
“Recently, Iran transported some S-300’s to the south, but that happened after the drone was shot down [June 20]. Russian specialists are working at Bushehr now and this means that the S-300’s are also for protection of Bushehr.”
Flight distance between Bushehr and Bandar Abbas is about 570 kms. From Bandar Abbas southeast to Kuhmobarak, the site of the Iranian missile firing against the US drone, is another 200 kms.
Last Thursday, June 20, just after midnight, a US Global Hawk drone [US Navy version ‘Triton’ – Kj] was tracked by Iran from its launch at an airbase in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), south of Dubai.
The take-off and initial flight route appear to have been more than 300 kms from Iranian tracking radars. Four hours later, the aircraft was destroyed by an Iranian missile at a point at sea off Kuhmobarak. Follow the route tracking data published by the Iranian Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif here.

This report claims that although the S-300’s are wheeled and motorized for rapid position changes, the use of highway transporters was intended to minimize road fatigue on the weapons.

According to Gavrilov writing in March, the expected plan of US attack will be the use of precision missiles and bombs at “primary targets…plants for the production and processing of nuclear fuel, uranium mines, production for its enrichment, refineries, other industrial centers. But initially [the objective] will be to suppress (completely destroy) the air defense system. The mass use of cruise missiles for various purposes and guided aircraft bombs will disable the control system of Iran’s troops and suppress the system of reconnaissance and anti-aircraft missile fire.

The main Iranian vulnerability facing American attack, reports Gavrilov, is less the range, volume and density of firepower with which the Iranians can respond than the relatively slow time they have shown to date for processing incoming attack data, fixing targets, and directing counter-fire.

Gavrilov does not estimate how far the Iranians have been able to solve by themselves, and with Russian help, the problems of automation and coordination of fire. To offset whatever weakness may remain, he recommends specific technical contributions the Russians can make. These include the technology of electronic countermeasures (ECM) to jam or deflect US targeting signals and ordnance guidance systems.
While Gavrilov believes the Iranian military have already achieved high enough density of fire against incoming weapons, he isn’t sure the range and altitude of Iranian radars will be good enough to match the attack risks.

In briefings for sympathetic western reporters, Iranian commanders are emphasizing the Armageddon option; that is, however weak or strong their defences may prove to be under prolonged US attack, the Iranian strategy is not to wait. Their plan, they say, is to counter-attack against Arab as well as American targets as soon as a US missile attack commences; that’s to say, at launch, not inflight nor at impact.

“I realized that we had probably pulled the wool over the American people’s eyes and certainly over the international community’s eyes and so I felt pretty low about it,” he said.
Wilkerson said that one of the things that disturbed him is that the same tactics are being used as were used in 2002 and earl 2003 with regard to Iraq.
“The same people, the same tactics, the same litany, the same strategy, the same everything,” he said. “And yet there seems to be as Gore Vidal called the American people we are the ‘United States of Amnesia.’ There seems to be no reasonable attitude out there about this that, hey, we’ve seen this before. We do not need to do this again.”
Wilkerson helped Colin Powell prepare his famed presentation to the UN in which he primed the world for war with Iraq.
“Indeed, the facts and Iraq’s behavior show that Saddam Hussein and his regime are concealing their efforts to produce more weapons of mass destruction,” he explained.
“When I listened to [Powell] present, I realized that the six days and seven nights that we spent preparing his presentation had not allowed me to look at the whole thing, to understand exactly what he was saying, particularly the part where he connected the 9/11 attacks — al-Qaeda, the terrorist organization, with Saddam Hussein which I and others in the intelligence community knew was a real stretch.”

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s claim that Iran and Al Qaeda are collaborating is at best an exaggeration that is not supported by any available information, U.S. intelligence officers and officials with the State and Defense Department tell TIME.
Pompeo made the claim about the terrorist organization during testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last month, at a time when tensions between the U.S. and Iran have risen.
“There is no doubt there is a connection between the Islamic Republic of Iran and al-Qaeda. Period. Full stop,” he said. “The factual question with respect to Iran’s connections to al Qaeda is very real. They have hosted al Qaeda. They have permitted al-Qaeda to transit their country.”
But U.S. officials say that he dramatically overstated the case.
“The Secretary has blown the level of collusion between Iran and a few of the remnants of al Qaeda way out of proportion,” says a senior U.S. official who follows developments in Iran closely. “There have been occasional marriages of convenience, but there is nothing in the intelligence to suggest that any of them has been consummated in any grand anti-American alliance.”
Two intelligence officials say that while it’s true that a handful of al Qaeda members, including one of Osama bin Laden’s sons, have been in Iran since shortly after the U.S. attacked their safe haven in Afghanistan in 2001, there is no evidence that Shiite Muslim Iran and the Sunni extremist group have carried out any joint operations against the U.S.
To the contrary, three officials noted, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, al Qaeda’s direct descendant in Syria and Iraq, took credit for a 2017 attack on Iran’s parliament building and the tomb of the Islamic Republic’s founder, the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, which according to Iran’s state media killed at least 12 people.
That attack may have been prompted by the fact that Lebanon’s Hezbollah and other Shiite militias backed by Iran’s Quds Force, the overseas arms of Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, have battled al Qaeda and ISIS in Syria and Iraq, said another U.S. official, who like the others requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly.
“There have been al Qaeda people in Iran since shortly after 9/11, occasionally under house arrest,” says Daniel Benjamin, who was the State Department’s top counterterrorism official during the Obama Administration and now director of the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.
However, Benjamin tells TIME, Iran has not had an operational alliance with al Qaeda.
“The Iranians want to know what AQ is up to and they keep close tabs on them, but Iran’s current approach and one it’s maintained for many years has been to avoid anything that would provoke an American strike,” he says.
The most recent State Department Country Report on Iran’s support for terrorism, published last September, doesn’t pull any punches, saying: “Iran continued to provide weapons, training, and funding to Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist groups, including Palestine Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command.
“These Palestinian terrorist groups have been behind a number of deadly attacks originating in Gaza and the West Bank, including attacks against Israeli civilians and Egyptian security forces in the Sinai Peninsula.”
But on connections between Tehran and al Qaeda, the report says only that: “Iran remained unwilling to bring to justice senior al-Qa’ida (AQ) members residing in Iran and has refused to publicly identify the members in its custody.” In addition, the clerical regime in Tehran has allowed the group to move money and fighters through Iran from Pakistan to South Asia and Syria “since at least 2009”.
However, the U.S. officials tell TIME, last summer or fall, after Pompeo became Secretary of State, language suddenly appeared referring to the few al Qaeda members as “AQ in Iran,” suggesting there was an operational cell, which the officials say was at least an exaggeration, if not an outright falsehood.
That assertion predictably has evoked memories of the George W. Bush Administration’s false claims that al Qaeda had links to Iraq, and even that bin Laden and Saddam Hussein — both Sunnis — might have cooperated in planning the Sept. 11, 2001, World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks.
In that case, Bush Administration officials and Iraqi exiles distorted intelligence about a supposed Iraqi terrorist training facility and an Iraqi offer to bin Laden of safe haven in Iraq, which officials neglected to mention that bin Laden had rejected, saying Iraq’s objectives were not al Qaeda’s.
There is, the U.S. officials said, slightly more substance to Pompeo’s assertion than there was to the Bush Administration’s claims about al Qaeda and Iraq, despite the centuries-old hostility between Shiite Iran and its Sunni neighbors. The small number of senior members of bin Laden’s now scattered group who remain in Iran are there with the government’s permission, although some of them have been under virtual house arrest, says one of the officials.
The arrangement, say two of the officials, is a pragmatic one: It prevents al Qaeda or any group under its wing from attacking Iran and it provides Tehran some potential leverage in any new negotiations with the U.S., although Iranian President Hassan Rouhani this week said he’s not ready to talk.
“I can envision a moment when, as part of some negotiation, Iran might offer to hand over the al Qaeda types it’s been harboring in exchange for some concession on sanctions,” one U.S. diplomat tells TIME. “If you think about it, that’s kind of the opposite of what the Secretary has said.”
Now, these officials worry that the situation could spin out of control, especially after Iran this week announced that it is quadrupling it production of low-enriched uranium, which cannot be used for nuclear weapons, and on Sunday someone fired a Katyusha rocket that landed about a mile from the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
Even before Iran announced the increase in uranium enrichment, Trump reversed his comment that he hoped there would not be a war with Iran and echoed National Security Advisor John Bolton’s vague threats of military action against Iran, tweeting: “If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran.”
Saudi Arabia, too, has been escalating its verbal attacks on its Shiite enemy, particularly in connection with the Islamic Republic’s support for Houthi rebels in Yemen, and the Kingdom is preparing to host a meeting of Sunni allies against Iran on May 30 in Mecca.
Pompeo and Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan sought on Tuesday to reassure lawmakers that the Administration is not trying to start a war with Iran. But reactions to their classified briefings remained divided along party lines, with Democrats saying they are unsure of the Administration’s intentions and Republicans saying its efforts to deter Iranian aggression are succeeding.
“I don’t think anyone wants another war in the Middle East,” one of the U.S officials said on Tuesday, “but then again, nobody wanted World War I either.”

In the Middle Ages, the feminine figures of Ecclesia (Church) and Synagoga (Synagogue) were a familiar motif in Christian art. It was a visual presentation of the understanding of the relationship between Christianity and Judaism that prevailed in that era. Mary C. Boys has described it as follows:
We can see a [particular] pattern in the Christian iconography of the dual figures Synagoga and Ecclesia. For many Christians of the Middle Ages, the status of Judaism evoked images from Lamentations (1:1; 5:16-17):

Though the church has triumphed over synagogue, the latter is a tragic rather than sinister figure–a woman conquered, with her crown fallen, staff broken, and Torah dropping to the ground. …
Here in an early 15th century German Bible history book, Ecclesia collects the precious blood of Jesus into her chalice. Synagoga’s vision is blocked by a demon on her head, who also casts off her crown.
Other representations of Synagoga, particularly in the Late Middle Ages, present a more contemptible figure.
For example, in a fifteenth-century portrayal of the crucifixion, Ecclesia holds a chalice to receive the blood from the pierced heart of Jesus, whereas Synagoga turns away from him, in the clasp of a devil who rides atop her neck and blinds her to the Christ by covering her eyes. The association with the devil evokes a malevolent Synagoga. … Many [Medieval Christians] would have viewed the figures of Synagoga and Ecclesia, and thereby absorbed a dangerous lesson: Judaism no longer has reason to exist.

Electronic Intifada: Gulf rulers embrace Israel at Kushner’s Bahrain workshop
After much anticipation and few expectations, the US-sponsored conference in Bahrain’s capital Manama ended on Wednesday.
Despite the lack of official Palestinian and Israeli representation at the gathering to launch the US-backed “Peace to Prosperity” plan for Palestinians, the conference featured unprecedented manifestations of warmth between Israel and Gulf governments.
Ministers from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar attended, as well as low-level delegates from Jordan and Egypt.
US presidential adviser and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner discussed the economic component of a yet to be fully unveiled peace plan in an attempt to garner financial backing for it.
“Peace to Prosperity” was published by the White House last week.

On Wednesday, US treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin was joined on stage by the finance ministers of Saudi Arabia, the UAE and the host state.
It was notable that Qatar was not invited to the table despite its minister of finance Ali Sharif Al Emadi being present at the conference.
Mnuchin highlighted the countries’ joint alliance against Iran and the establishment of the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center by the US, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman in Riyadh earlier this year.
“Not only are we here talking about peace and prosperity but we are sitting in a region right now that is under threat from bad actors that are exporting terrorists around the world,” he said.
The treasury secretary expressed confidence that the US could raise the funds for the $50 billion deal – which has been described as an attempt to buy Palestinian rights for peanuts.
“I know there is a lot of money in this room,” Mnuchin said.
Mnuchin’s words echo the attitude of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman towards the Palestinian issue as a mere nuisance standing in the way of closer ties with Israel in order to confront Iran.
“Israel’s never attacked us,” and “we share a common enemy,” bin Salman reportedly told US officials in more than one meeting, Adam Entous reported for The New Yorker last year.
“We’re going to get the deal done,” bin Salman reportedly told an American visitor to Riyadh in 2017. “I’m going to deliver the Palestinians and he” – Trump – “is going to deliver the Israelis.”
Israel’s UN ambassador Danny Danon echoed the sentiment on Fox News on Tuesday, saying Israel would “absolutely” collaborate with Gulf states “against the aggression coming from Iran. It is a threat to Israel. It is a threat to the stability of the Middle East.”
Danon penned an op-ed in The New York Times on Monday calling for Palestinian “surrender” and asserting that “a national suicide of the Palestinians’ current political and cultural ethos is precisely what is needed for peace.”
Unusual interview
Barak Ravid of Israel’s Channel 13 spoke to Bahrain’s foreign minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa in an unusual interview between an Israeli journalist and a senior Gulf government official.
The foreign minister stated that formal diplomatic relations between Jordan, Egypt and Israel do not go far enough, adding that “we do want to see normalization” and a “good” and “meaningful landing” of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Manama.
“Yes, you do have peace with Egypt and Jordan, and some kind of understanding with the Palestinians,” Al Khalifa told Ravid. “But this is not the limit of the scope of where you belong. Israel is a country in the Middle East. It is part of the heritage of this region. The Jewish people have a place amongst us.”
Al Khalifa said he trusted the Trump administration to reach an agreement, and called on the Palestinians not to “shun the role of the US in the peace process,” despite decades of its failure and extreme and increasing bias towards Israel.
Using the kind of inflammatory rhetoric that underpins the warming ties between some Gulf states and Israel, the foreign minister asserted that “Iran is a major threat to the security and stability of the region. I don’t want to use the word Iran. It’s the Islamic Republic. It’s this regime that changed all the dynamics.”
Al Khalifa acknowledged meeting Israeli officials in the past “on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly,” adding that those meetings always led to “understandings.”
When asked who left the biggest impression, he responded, “the late president Shimon Peres. I never met the late Prime Minister [Yitzhak] Rabin. Peres really put his heart in achieving peace. But it didn’t happen.”
In 2009, Bahrain’s king met secretly with then Israeli President Shimon Peres in New York, a meeting organized by an unnamed Israeli diplomat who warmed up to several Bahrain foreign ministers, Ravid reported earlier this year.
When Peres died in 2016, Al Khalifa paid tribute to him on Twitter, and the Bahraini government sent a representative to the funeral in Israel.
Peres is responsible for decades of crimes against Palestinian and Lebanese people.
In another interview with The Times of Israel, Al Khalifa said that Palestinians “agreed” to land “swaps” when told that the Palestinian Authority still demands “sovereignty.”
He offered his support for Israel keeping settlements built on occupied Palestinian land it seized in violation of international law.
“Look, they agreed to [mutually] agreed [land] swaps. Let’s not forget that. Because some of the territory in the West Bank is now occupied by settlements that grew to become cities. Agreed swaps.”
Meanwhile, Jordanian Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah attended the wedding of Joshua Kushner, brother of the US presidential adviser, days before the Bahrain conference took place.
Some 200 people stormed the Bahraini embassy in Baghdad on Thursday in protest of the conference. Bahrain recalled its envoy from the Iraqi capital.

Mint Press News: Israel Looks to Bolster Diplomatic Cover for New Level of Civilian Bombing in Lebanon
Key figures in Israel’s government apparently believe that the grand scale of planned attacks on Lebanese civilians and civilian infrastructure will result in so much destruction and death that it will help to ensure an Israeli victory.
During a conference hosted on Tuesday by the Mossad-linked Shurat HaDin or Israel Law Center (ILC), Israel’s Public Security and Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan demanded that international laws on warfare be amended because current international law pertaining to warfare “serves terrorists.”
Erdan claimed that groups like Lebanon’s Hezbollah use existing international laws of war “to destabilize the ability of democracies to defend their citizens” and “force [democracies] to fight against terrorists with their hand chained behind their backs.”
The ILC’s director, Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, seconded Erdan’s claim but argued that changing international law is difficult, thus making it more practical to change how existing laws of war are interpreted, a task she suggested be performed by military prosecutors.
According to the Jerusalem Post, the laws currently governing international warfare are aimed specifically at reducing the suffering of civilians and, as the Post article suggested, Erdan wanted to change these measures aimed at protecting civilians prior to the “next war” between Israel and Lebanon because in that war “Israel will have no choice but to harm Hezbollah rocket sites and Lebanese infrastructure.”
Erdan’s argument hinges on the commonly repeated accusation by Israeli officials that Hezbollah uses civilians as cover for military operations, but a comprehensive 249-page study by Human Rights Watch found that not to be the case.
In fact, the study found that even “a simple movement of vehicles or persons – such as attempting to buy bread or moving about private homes – could be enough to cause a deadly Israeli airstrike that would kill civilians.”
Bolstering diplomatic cover for a coming war
As MintPress previously reported, Israel’s government has been preparing for an imminent war with Lebanon and specifically Hezbollah — which is a strong political force in Lebanon, with the coalition of which it is part holding a legislative majority in Lebanon’s parliament — for well over a year.
It has warned prominent U.S. Senators no only that it planned for a “bloody” war against Lebanon, but that the Israeli military planned specifically to target Lebanese civilians and civilian infrastructure, including residential areas.
During a visit to Israel last March, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), a close ally of the Trump administration, stated that Israel’s Likud-led government was requesting “ammunition, ammunition, ammunition” from the U.S. government, as well as diplomatic support for when Israel strikes civilian targets — such as “civilian apartment buildings, hospitals, and schools” — because Hezbollah has become “integrated” into these structures.
Prominent Israeli politicians have also made the case for targeting Lebanese civilians in the coming war between Israel and Lebanon.
For instance, Naftali Bennett, who until recently was Israel’s minister of education, told Haaretz in 2017 that civilians “must” be targeted the next time Israel and Lebanon go to war:
“The Lebanese institutions, its infrastructure, airport, power stations, traffic junctions, Lebanese Army bases –- they should all be legitimate targets if a war breaks out… This will mean sending Lebanon back to the Middle Ages.”
Past impunity expands to cover new atrocities
Under existing international law, the bombing of residential buildings, hospitals and schools is a clear war crime, though this hasn’t stopped Israel’s government from bombing these same structures in Gaza with regularity in recent years.
In addition, during the 2006 war between Israel and Lebanon, Israel’s military killed at least 1,109 civilians, injured over 4,000 and displaced an estimated 1 million according to figures compiled by Human Rights Watch.
The staggering civilian death toll sparked condemnation from international human-rights groups.
Thus, Erdan’s recent comments suggest that Israel’s government, in a war against Lebanon it plans to instigate under the guise of “preventative” defense, is planning to commit war crimes on a much larger scale than what was done in 2006 and is thus pushing for international law to be changed to accommodate those plans.
However, Israel has long been able to avoid accountability for war crimes, especially following the U.S. adoption of the “Negroponte doctrine” to protect Israel from criticism as well as any punitive action taken by the U.N. Security Council in relation to war crimes committed by Israel.
This makes it more likely that this current push led by Erdan to alter international law is aimed more at global public opinion, by redefining international law so that Israel could avoid being accused of war crimes for such attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in a future war.
Part of the strategy in targeting Lebanese civilians specifically appears to be Israel’s strong desire to win a “decisive victory” against Hezbollah in this future war, as opposed to the humiliating defeat its military suffered in 2006.
It appears that key figures in Israel’s government believe that the grand scale of planned attacks on Lebanese civilians and civilian infrastructure will result in so much destruction and death that it will help to ensure an Israeli victory.
Though it is unlikely Israel’s effort will succeed in changing international law, it may change how its government interprets such laws — as Darshan-Leitner recently suggested — and use such interpretations to secure even more robust diplomatic cover from its more influential allies such as the United States and to more easily avoid the war crime label from international media outlets and foreign governments.
Such a move may also prompt the Trump administration in the U.S. to do the same, particularly given the slew of recent pardons given to accused and convicted U.S. war criminals by President Donald Trump.
US troops “prepared to die for the Jewish state”
In addition, the U.S. military itself is likely to quickly become embroiled in this coming Israel-Lebanon war, given that head of U.S. Central Command (CentCom), Lt. Gen. Richard Clark, told the Jerusalem Post last year that IDF leadership (as opposed to American military leadership) would “probably” have the last word as to whether U.S. forces would join the IDF during a future war and that U.S. troops were “prepared to die for the Jewish state.”
IDF Brigadier General Zvika Haimovitch responded to Clark’s comments by stating: “I am sure once the order comes we will find here U.S. troops on the ground to be part of our deployment and team to defend the state of Israel.”
While much media attention has focused on the possibility of an imminent U.S. war with Iran, it is important to point out — especially in light of Israel’s comments — that Israel has been planning for over a year to go to war with Lebanon.
Indeed, last year, Israeli officials told U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham and Chris Coons (D-DE) that “Southern Lebanon is where the next war is coming.”
Yet, the push for war with Iran and the planned war against Lebanon may be related, given that Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stated the following late last month:
Any attack on Iran will not remain confined to Iran’s borders. The entire region will burn, leading to all U.S. forces and interests in the region being annihilated.”

In 2017, the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) created a special unit—the Iran Mission Center—to focus attention on the U.S. plans against Iran. The initiative for this unit came from CIA director John Brennan, who left his post as the Trump administration came into office. Brennan believed that the CIA needed to focus attention on what the United States sees as problem areas—North Korea and Iran, for instance. This predated the Trump administration.
Brennan’s successor—Mike Pompeo, who was CIA director for just over a year (until he was appointed U.S. Secretary of State)—continued this policy. The CIA’s Iran-related activity had been conducted in the Iran Operations Division (Persia House). This was a section with Iran specialists who built up knowledge about political and economic developments inside Iran and in the Iranian diaspora.
It bothered the hawks in Washington—as one official told me—that Persia House was filled with Iran specialists who had no special focus on regime change in Iran.
Some of them, due to their long concentration on Iran, had developed sensitivity to the country. Trump’s people wanted a much more focused and belligerent group that would provide the kind of intelligence that tickled the fancy of his National Security Adviser John Bolton.
To head the Iran Mission Center, the CIA appointed Michael D’Andrea. D’Andrea was central to the post-9/11 interrogation program, and he ran the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center. Assassinations and torture were central to his approach.
It was D’Andrea who expanded the CIA’s drone strike program, in particular the signature strike. The signature strike is a particularly controversial instrument. The CIA was given the allowance to kill anyone who fit a certain profile—a man of a certain age, for instance, with a phone that had been used to call someone on a list. The dark arts of the CIA are precisely those of D’Andrea.
What is germane to his post at the Iran Mission Center is that D’Andrea is close to the Gulf Arabs, a former CIA analyst told me. The Gulf Arabs have been pushing hard for action against Iran, a view shared by D’Andrea and parts of his team. For his hard-nosed attitude toward Iran, D’Andrea is known—ironically—as “Ayatollah Mike.”
D’Andrea and people like Bolton are part of an ecosystem of men who have a visceral hatred for Iran and who are close to the worldview of the Saudi royal family. These are men who are reckless with violence, willing to do anything if it means provoking a war against Iran. Nothing should be put past them.
D’Andrea and the hawks edged out several Iran experts from the Iran Mission Center, people like Margaret Stromecki—who had been head of analysis. Others who want to offer an alternative to the Pompeo-Bolton view of things either have also moved on or remain silent.
There is no space in the Trump administration, a former official told me, for dissent on the Iran policy.
Saudi Arabia’s War
D’Andrea’s twin outside the White House is Thomas Kaplan, the billionaire who set up two groups that are blindingly for regime change in Iran. The two groups are United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) and Counter Extremism Project. There is nothing subtle here. These groups—and Kaplan himself—promote an agenda of great disparagement of Muslims in general and of Iran in particular.
Kaplan blamed Iran for the creation of ISIS, for it was Iran—Kaplan said—that “used a terrible Sunni movement” to expand its reach from “Persia to the Mediterranean.”
Such absurdity followed from a fundamental misreading of Shia concepts such as taqiya, which means prudence and not—as Kaplan and others argue—deceit. Kaplan, bizarrely, shares more with ISIS than Iran does with that group—since both Kaplan and ISIS are driven by their hatred of those who follow the Shia traditions of Islam.
It is fitting that Kaplan’s anti-Iran groups bring together the CIA and money.
The head of UANI is Mark Wallace, who is the chief executive of Kaplan’s Tigris Financial Group, a financial firm with investments—which it admits—would benefit from “instability in the Middle East.” Working with UANI and the Counter Extremism Project is Norman Roule, a former national intelligence manager for Iran in the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
Roule has offered his support to the efforts of the Arabia Foundation, run by Ali Shihabi—a man with close links to the Saudi monarchy. The Arabia Foundation was set up to do more effective public relations work for the Saudis than the Saudi diplomats are capable of doing.
Shihabi is the son of one of Saudi Arabia’s most well-regarded diplomats, Samir al-Shihabi, who played an important role as Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Pakistan during the war that created al-Qaeda.
These men—Kaplan and Bolton, D’Andrea and Shihabi—are eager to use the full force of the U.S. military to further the dangerous goals of the Gulf Arab royals (of both Saudi Arabia and of the UAE). When Pompeo walked before cameras, he carried their water for them. These are men on a mission. They want war against Iran.
Evidence, reason. None of this is important to them. They will not stop until the U.S. bombers deposit their deadly payload on Tehran and Qom, Isfahan and Shiraz. They will do anything to make that our terrible reality.
