How many Israel-Firsters does it take to mess up the Middle East?
One, Jared Kushner, Trump’s designated driver rolling a bulldozer through the back roads of an already bulldozed region.
Match him with Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi’s ‘clown prince,’ and Kushner’s Plan hatched in the desert sands stutters and plops.
With two previous meetings with the Sauds, Kushner’s third visit in October was veiled in secrecy.
But what was whispered in the ear is now shouted from the rooftops, and the whole world laughs watching Amateur Hour play out.
For if the Plan was to have Hariri resign and collapse Lebanon’s government into chaos, it didn’t work.
If it was to provoke Hezbollah to react as Iran’s ‘terrorist’ proxies as a pretext to send Israeli troops into Lebanon, didn’t work either.
Blowing up in Kushner’s face, it unified all of the normally contentious political factions of Lebanon like nothing else could, closing ranks with Hezbollah.
With statesman-like calm, Hezbollah’s leader Nasrallah, came out smelling like a rose.

And tell me, if the Plan was to justify the Sauds ‘normalizing relations with Israel’ by forcing Abbas, when summoned to Saudi Arabia last week, to accept a Palestinian ‘state’ with Israeli checkpoints and drones, that failed too.
Abbas would have none of it. No mistake about it.

Kudos to the Lebanese people for holding it all together despite partisan differences and raising a united voice demanding their prime minister back and supporting their government and leaders. Hariri rethinks quitting as PM now that he’s gotten the heck out of Saudi Arabia — but his wife and family have returned there.
Nasrallah was superb and very statesman-like in the clips you found. He’s won the admiration of many Sunnis in Lebanon for being a voice of reason and sanity. I know that in his reports and speeches during the Hariri crisis, he emphatically encouraged people to stick with Lebanon’s constitutional order and prevent the nation from fracturing.
The Lebanese government is entirely suspicious of Israel, as the IDF also increased their provocations along the southern border during the crisis. Joseph Aoun, the commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces put the military “full readiness” mode a few days ago after observing the “Israeli enemy” conducting provocative maneuvers.
At the same time, President Michel Aoun stated, “Israeli targeting still continues and it is the right of the Lebanese to resist it and foil its plans by all available means”.
To further bolster this state of alert, Nasrallah announced that its paramilitary volunteers were being recalled from Iraq to Lebanon as anti-ISIS operations were over, and that the threat to Iraqis neutralized. The timing of this statement indicated that in Narallah’s estimation, reinforcements were being called back to southern Lebanon, as many feared another Israeli invasion.

This just in from Haaretz: Report: Abbas Refused Kushner’s Phone Call Following Decision to Sever Ties With Washington
A source tells Haaretz that the Palestinian president is determined to ignore the White House until the future of the Palestinian mission in Washington is determined
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas refused to receive a phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump’s senior adviser in charge of brokering an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, Jared Kushner, on Wednesday.
Instead of taking Kushner’s call, Abbas referred him to the Palestinian Authority’s representative in Washington, Lebanon’s Al-Mayadeen TV reported.
The White House denied the report.
The alleged snub comes on the heels of the instructions given by Abbas on Tuesday to freeze Palestinian contacts with the U.S.
This decision came after Trump’s threat to close the Palestine Liberation Organization mission in Washington, D.C.
The White House is demanding that the Palestinians drop their request for The Hague’s International Court of Justice to investigate Israel, as well as not resisting an American peace initiative as two preconditions for the PLO to continue its activity in the U.S.
Abbas’ spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh, who is currently with the PA president in Madrid on a state visit, said on Tuesday that “the coming period will be a determining one in relation to the definition of the Palestinian-American relationship.”
Speaking about the newly-introduced American demands, Rudeineh stressed that “Abbas’ instruction stems from faith in the Palestinian path.”
Vice President Mike Pence is slated to visit the Palestinian city of Bethlehem in December, but despite the recent diplomatic escalation, his visit is still scheduled to proceed as planned.
A senior Palestinian government official familiar with the developments told Haaretz that Abbas’ instruction to sever ties is being executed by the higher ranks, but that lower ranks continue to engage with U.S. officials.
The source further clarified that Palestinian officials will agree to hold talks with senior officials in the Trump administration should Washington initiate such a dialogue.
“What’s important to the Palestinians is to convey the message and the clear stance to the [American] government, and not to cut off ties just for the sake of cutting off ties,” the source explained. “It should not be forgotten in this case the power play [between the parties], especially when it comes to such a world power as the United States.”
According to a senior member of the Palestinian Authority, the American threat to shut down the PLO mission in Washington is an unprecedented move. The source said that the threat has triggered the biggest rift between the PA and the White House in recent years.
“In meetings with President Trump, Abbas received very relaxing messages, and on the other hand we are dealing with such a stance by the [American] government that casts doubt on the whole relationship,” the source said. “The question to be asked is: How does the White House explain this disparity?”
Despite Abbas’ stern message, the administration in Washington continues to insist that ties between the U.S. and the PA remain intact.
White House spokeswoman Heather Nauert told reporters in Washington that the U.S. has a good relationship with the Palestinian Authority and that talks with the Palestinians about the future of the PLO offices in Washington are still ongoing.
Nauert added that at this point, the PLO mission is still operating as usual. According to her, the Trump administration has not given up its ambition to help achieve Israeli-Palestinian peace, a goal defined as a “top priority” in the White House.
Speaking to Haaretz on Wednesday evening, a Palestinian government official said that the White House has tried to reach out to the PA and invite Abbas to a meeting in Washington in the coming weeks, but that the PA chair was not quick to respond to the invitation.
According to the official, Ramallah prefers to have senior American advisers and the U.S. State Department instead meet with the head of the Palestinian negotiation team, Saeb Erekat, who is currently in Washington recovering from an operation, or with the head of Palestinian intelligence, who is considered to be Abbas’ personal envoy to contacts with the U.S. and multiple world leaders.
The official also said that there was no further information about the topics Kushner wanted to discuss with Abbas, but that the latter remains firm in his decision to sever ties with Washington until the dispute over the PLO mission is resolved.

I’m opposed to overbearing sexual harrassment whether it’s done by heterosexual men or women or queers.

That being said, I find it highly hypocritical for these famous, aging Hollywood actresses whose careers are in the twilight to suddenly decide to blame Hollywood producers, directors and actors that took liberties.

I was in my room in the Baghdad Hotel on al-Sadoun street last Sunday evening, writing about the chances for stability in Iraq taking hold, when the walls and floor began to shake. They jerked sideways and up and down several times as if my room was the cabin of boat in a rough sea.
My first confused thought was – this being Baghdad – that there must have been some huge bomb explosion, which would explain the rocking motion of everything around me. But almost simultaneously, I realised that I had not heard the sound of an explosion, so a better explanation was that there was an earthquake, though I had never thought of Baghdad as being in an earthquake zone.
The jerking movements of the walls and floor of my room were so spectacular that I wondered if the building was going to collapse. I looked under the desk where I was sitting, but the space was too small for me to crouch in. I got down on my hands and knees and started to crawl towards the bathroom which is meant to be the safest place in the event of a bomb explosion, and I supposed the same must be true of earthquakes.
I had got about half way there when the shaking stopped. The lights were still on which seemed a good sign. I got back on a stool and googled “Baghdad earthquake” on my laptop and read a series of alarmed tweets confirming that was indeed what had just happened.
It was a 7.3 magnitude quake centred 19 miles from Halabja, a small city in Iraqi Kurdistan 150 miles north-east of Baghdad and close to the Iranian border.
Nine people had been killed in Iraq, but the catastrophic damage was in Iran where 530 people had died.
In earlier times, an earthquake like this would be taken as an omen: a warning of bad times to come. Shakespeare is full of such grim portents which commonly precede assassinations and defeats in battle. This would be a pity in the case of present day Iraq because, for the first time since Saddam Hussein started his war with Iran in 1980, the prospects look positive.
The central government is stronger than before, defeating Isis in the nine-month long siege of Mosul and ending the move towards secession of Iraqi Kurdistan by peacefully reoccupying Kirkuk and other disputed territories.
Substantial successes these certainly are, but what has really changed the political landscape of Iraq is that there is no longer a community, party or faction fighting the central government with financial and military aid from foreign backers.
For once, Iraq has good relations with all the neighbouring states.
The earthquake may not herald more domestically-generated violence in Iraq, but in the real world it is a useful reminder that the country, along with the rest of the Middle East, is vulnerable to unexpected and unpredictable events.
Of course, these are always a possibility anywhere, but never more than at present because of the strange character change of two traditionally conservative powers in the region: the US and Saudi Arabia. Previously committed to preserving the political status quo, both have become mercurial and prone to saw off the branch on which they are sitting.
Shortly before the earthquake in Baghdad, I was making the above point about Iraq stabilising to a European diplomat. Probably, the Saudis and the Americans exaggerate the willingness of Netanyahu and Israel to go to war. Netanyahu has always been strong on bellicose rhetoric, but cautious about real military conflict (except in Gaza, which was more massacre than war).
Israel’s military strength tends to be exaggerated and its army has not won a war outright since 1973. Previous engagements with Hezbollah have gone badly. Israeli generals know that the threat of military action can be more effective than its use in maximising Israeli political influence, but that actually going to war means losing control of the situation.
They will know the saying of the 19th century German chief of staff, Helmuth Von Moltke, that “no plan survives contact with the enemy”. But even if the Israelis do not intend to fight Hezbollah or Iran, this does not mean that they would not like somebody else to do so for them.
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi told me in an interview earlier this month that his greatest fear was a US-Iranian confrontation fought out in Iraq. This could happen directly or through proxies, but in either case would end the present fragile peace.
On the optimistic side, US policy in Iraq and Syria is largely run by the Pentagon and not the White House, and has not changed much since President Obama’s days. It has been successful in its aim of destroying Isis and the self-declared caliphate.
The wars in Iraq and Syria already have their winners and losers: President Bashar al-Assad stays in power in Damascus, as does a Shia-dominated government in Baghdad. An Iranian-backed substantially Shia axis in four countries – Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon – stretches from the Afghan border to the Mediterranean.
This is the outcome of the wars since 2011, which is not going to be reversed except by a US land invasion – as happened in Iraq in 2003.
The great danger in the Middle East today is that Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman and Jared Kushner appear to have a skewed and unrealistic understanding of the world around them. Inspector Clouseau seems to have a greater influence on Saudi policy than Machiavelli, going by the antics surrounding the forced resignation of Saad Hariri as Prime Minister of Lebanon. This sort of thing is not going to frighten the Iranians or Hezbollah.
The signs are that Iran has decided to go a long way to avoid confrontation with the US. In Iraq, it is reported that it will support the re-election of Abadi as prime minister which is also what the US wants.
Iran knows that it has come out on the winning side in Iraq and Syria and does not need to flaunt its success.
It may also believe that the Crown Prince is using anti-Iranian nationalist rhetoric to secure his own power and does not intend to do much about it.
Nobody has much to gain from another war in the Middle East, but wars are usually started by those who miscalculate their own strengths and interests.
Both the US and Saudi Arabia have become “wild cards” in the regional pack. The sort of Neo-con and right-wing think tankers, who in 2003 were saying that a war with Iraq would be a doddle, are back in business in Washington, pushing for war with Iran – and are stronger than ever.
The wars in the Middle East should be ending, but they could just be entering a new phase. Leaders in the US and Saudi Arabia may not want a new war, but they might just blunder into one.

Report: Mueller Investigating Kushner’s Efforts to Combat UN Resolution Condemning Israeli Settlements
In the lead-up to the vote on the resolution, there were speculations that Russia could veto it, thus protecting Israel after the Obama administration decided to abstain
WASHINGTON – Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential elections, is reportedly examining actions taken by Jared Kushner against a UN Security Council Resolution condemning Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that Mueller is looking into efforts made by Kushner, U.S. President Donald Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law, against the resolution, which passed in December 2016, during the transition period between the Obama and Trump administrations.
The UN resolution against Israeli settlements in the West Bank was proposed by Egypt, and the Obama administration controversially decided not to veto it. Israeli officials reached out at the time to the Trump transition team, asking the president-elect to try and exert influence over different countries to block the resolution.
Trump [the then non-entity of “president-elect”], in turn, attacked the resolution on his social media accounts and called Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi, requesting he reverse his country’s support of the resolution.
In the lead-up to the vote on the resolution, there were speculations in the Israeli media that perhaps Russia could veto it, thus protecting Israel from the lack of a veto by the Obama administration. Eventually, however, Russia voted in favor of the resolution, as did all the 14 other members of the UN Security Council, except the U.S., which chose to abstain.
Trump took to Twitter following the vote, writing, in reference to his slated inauguration date: “As to the UN, things will be different after Jan. 20th.”
The White House, in turn, blamed the passage of the resolution on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s settlement policies. “If we didn’t see acceleration in settlement activity and wouldn’t hear that kind of rhetoric from the Israeli government then maybe the U.S. would have taken take a different view,” then-Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes said.
Netanyahu, for his part, called the resolution “crazy,” accused the Obama administration of carrying out an underhanded, anti-Israel maneuver and assured the Israeli public that the resolution would be overcome.

Israel has been pursuing rapprochement with the Gulf monarchies and other Muslim nations in the region, citing common interests and threats, with Iran their top target.
Israel currently has diplomatic relations only with Egypt and Jordan, while the rest of the Arab world maintains that any relations are possible only after the Israelis withdraw from the Palestinian territories captured in the Six-Day War of 1967.
Last week, Israeli Energy Minister, Yuval Steinitz, also confirmed Tel Aviv’s clandestine contacts with the Arab world. “We have ties that are indeed partly covert with many Muslim and Arab countries, and usually (we are) the party that is not ashamed,” the minister told Army Radio.
“It’s the other side that is interested in keeping the ties quiet. With us, usually, there is no problem, but we respect the other side’s wish, when ties are developing, whether it’s with Saudi Arabia or with other Arab countries or other Muslim countries, and there is much more … (but) we keep it secret,” Steinitz said.

Saad Hariri was spooked by a reported assassination plot against him, and so he fled to Riyadh (He’s a duo-Lebanese-Saudi citizen) where he also maintains a home.
In 2005, former Lebanon prime minister, Rafik Hariri, Saad’s father, along with 22 others, was murdered when explosives equivalent to around 4,000 lb of TNT concealed inside a parked Mitsubishi van were detonated as his motorcade drove near the St. George Hotel in Beirut.
He was a Lebanese business tycoon and the Prime Minister of Lebanon from 1992 to 1998 and again from 2000 until his resignation on 20 October 2004. He headed five cabinets during his tenure.
Rafik Hariri dominated the country’s post-war political and business life and is widely credited with reconstructing the capital Beirut after the 15-year civil war.
Alleged Hezbollah supporters Salim Jamil Ayyash, Hassan Habib Merhi, Hussein Hassan Oneissi, and Assad Hassan Sabra were indicted for the assassination and were tried in absentia by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. Others have linked the assassination to the Syrian government. If Syria killed Rafik Hariri, mastermind of Lebanon’s revival after the civil war, it must be judged a great act of political suicide. Syria was already under great international pressure at the time.
Hariri’s killing was a catalyst for dramatic political change in Lebanon. The massive protests of the Cedar Revolution helped achieve the withdrawal of Syrian troops and security forces from Lebanon, and a change in governments.
Hezbollah blamed the assassination on Israel. According to Hezbollah officials, the assassination of Hariri was planned by the Mossad as a means of expelling the Syrian army from Lebanon.
In August 2010, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah presented evidence, consisting of intercepted Israeli spy-drone video footage, which he said implicated Israel in the assassination of Hariri.

Al Manar: Speaker Berri: Lebanon Overcame Crisis, Gov’t Functioning Normally
House Speaker Nabih Berri said that Lebanon has overcome the crisis caused by the surprise resignation of PM Saad Hariri, noting that the government is normally operating.
Talking to his visitors in Ain Al-Tineh on Friday, Berri said: “Everything is going on track,” noting that political sides in Lebanon have to offer some concessions.
Meanwhile, Berri voiced satisfaction towards statements released by both Hariri’s Al-Mustaqbal party and Hezbollah, adding: “All sides are working and the solution (to the crisis) is reachable.”
Berri’s remarks come just two days after Hariri announced he was putting off his resignation at President Michel Aoun request. The PM returned late Tuesday to Lebanon after being in Saudi Arabia for 14 days.
President Aoun accused Saudi Arabia of detaining Hariri after forcing him to offer resignation, stressing that the move is a violation to Lebanon’s serenity and interference in its internal affairs.

Hezbollah Deputy Chief Sheikh Naim Qassem stressed that Saudi Arabia cannot cover up its failure in the region through destabilizing Lebanon, noting that Lebanon has overcome many challenges.
During a local ceremony, Sheikh Qassem said the region has been witnessing many crises, in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Bahrain and Yemen, pointing out to the Saudi role in such crises.
“If we look into these crises we’ll find out that Saudi, backed by the US and the Zionist entity, is behind them,” Sheikh Qassem said.
Riyadh has supported the Takfiri terrorism, bombed Yemen, funding terrorist groups and establishing close ties with the Zionist entity in a bid to wipe out the Palestinian cause, Hezbollah’s Deputy Chief said on Tuesday.
“Saudi wanted to sabotage stabilized and united Lebanon. However, thanks to President Michel Aoun’s wise leadership and national unity in the country… the plot has been foiled,” Hezbollah Media Relations quoted Sheikh Qassem as saying.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Qassem stressed that Saudi schemes in the region have failed, noting that Riyadh cannot cover up this failure in Lebanon.

RT: Al-Bashir visits Russia, says Sudan needs protection from US
Sudan has reached an agreement with the Russian Defense Ministry on assistance in upgrading its armed forces, President Omar al-Bashir said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday in Sochi.
Sudan finds the situation in the Red Sea worrisome, al-Bashir said, adding that “US interference in these affairs is also a problem,” TASS reports.
The Sudanese president said that US intervention was “to blame for Sudan’s split” into two states. “As a result we need protection from aggressive actions by the US. We believe that what is happening in Syria now is an effect of US interference.”

The Duran: Russia slams US “occupation” of Syria after reports suggest the US will not leave Syria
Russia continues to use strong language to criticise Washington’s illegal actions in Syria.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Maria Zakharova has slammed a report from the Washington Post which claims the US is planning to stay in Syria for “years” in an attempt to occupy and destabilise the country using the ethno-nationalist ambitions of their Kurdish proxies as a flimsy ‘justification’.
This is something which was categorically rejected by the members of the Astana Group which includes Russia, Iran and Turkey.
Today Zakharova stated in response to the report,
“They are there not only without permission from Damascus, but also in direct violation of the wishes of the Syrian government. In fact, what they are doing could be described as occupation”.
She further stated,
“US Defense Secretary openly said on November 13 that the American troops will not leave Syria until progress is made with a political resolution. The conditions of which, we presume, the US wants to dictate arbitrarily.
“We have noted on numerous occasions that such statements cast a serious doubt about what the true goals of the US-led coalition are in Syria”.
This represents yet a further strongly worded admonition of US policy in Syria from Russia, after Sergey Lavrov effectively told the US it is time to prepare an orderly withdrawal during statements made last week.

2. Many threats to my life.
3. PayPISS banning me last March.
4. JEWtoob suspending my Account and threatening to BAN me. (Mossad/CIA, which is a merged agency, OWNS JEWtoob and Gulag/Google. Mossad funded Brin and Page at the outset.)
5. Continual financial struggles, now worse than ever due to the PayPISS ban and declining donations.
In spite of it all, UNLIKE MANY who have dropped out of the race, I have not.
I continue this fight. For I am fighting the ENEMIES of JESUS CHRIST, wretched, free-speech-hating Jews.

On November 25, the civil council of the Syrian Rukban refugee camp located on the Syrian-Jordanian border started negotiations with the Syrian government to reach a reconciliation deal, according to the Syrian pro-opposition media outlet “Hammurabi’s Justice News”.
Hammurabi’s Justice News released a list of demands, which the Rukban Civil Council had sent to the Syrian government. In the list, the Rukban Civil Council asked the government to allow the refugees from the camp to return to their towns and villages.
The Rukban Civil Council also stressed in the document its support for the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and said that the refugees are ready to form a force to support the SAA once they are allowed back.
Others demands include allowing the refugees to return to their jobs or universities.
The Syrian government will likely accept the Rukban Civil Council demands in the upcoming days, as all of these demands are logical and compatible with the Syrian laws.
Such a reconciliation deal between the Rukban Civil Council and the Damascus government will be another blow to the US-led coalition in the al-Tanaf base area. The coalition had claimed on many occasion that it was protecting the civilians in the camp.
Previously, Russia accused the US-led coalition of not allowing any humanitarian aid to enter the Rukban camp and said that the humanitarian situation in the camp was catastrophic.
From its side, Mohanad Tala’a a commander of the US-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) group in al-Tanaf base denied the Russian accusations on November 25.
He said that the aid didn’t enter the camp because “the UN is still studying the matter” according to the Russian state-run news agency Sputnik.
However, the ongoing negotiations between the Rukban Civil Council and the Syrian government proved that Tala’a lied.
The Rukban refugee camp is hosting over 60,000 Syrian refugees from eastern Qalamun, Eastern Ghouta, Deir Ezzor, Raqqa and eastern Homs.
Since 2014, the US-led coalition and the Syrian opposition have repeatedly claimed that these refugees are against the Syrian government. However the Rukban Civil Council said that these people only left their areas due to the battles.
